Kumbha Mela 2008

Vedic Cultural Center of Sammamish is conducting Kumbhamela 2009. Kumbhamela 2009 is the largest Indian event in the state of Washington. This event presents a rich tapestry of Indian culture integrated as presented by many talented local artists, singers, and dancers. Come and enjoy the many concerts, plays, interactive displays, kids games with prizes and gourmet Indian cuisine. A popular item in this year’s festival is the Vrindavan Village Theme Park which displays arts and culture with traditional costumes, architecture, folklore and spirituality.

On August 13th and 14th the birthday of Krishna will be celebrated the same way as it is celebrated traditionally in India. The celebration goes until midnight on both evenings. There will be continual concerts, plays, singing and dancing with traditional ceremonial decorations. On Saturday the 15th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. there will be a celebration of India’s Independence day followed by a full day of festivities. On August 16th, will be the Festival of Milk which showcases the richness of Indian milk sweets and the tremendous health benefits of milk. In vedic culture cows are treated with respect and cared for like a member of the family. In reciprocation vedic cows give nutrient rich milk which is the ultimate superfood for human health.

Rangoli (muggulu or decorative designs made with flowers and different colored chalk) will bedeck the entire center in traditional Indian style. There will be a contest with judges to see who can make the most elaborate designs.
